Who we are

The Exterior Cleaning Industry Association is a non-profit organization that is committed to representing and educating exterior cleaning practitioners in best practice Water Management, Environmental and Health & Safety standards. To support this objective the ECIA has developed a Code of Practice (CoP) which is available as a free download from this website. The CoP also covers new & existing property maintenance requirements, work completion standards and best practice retrofit recommendations.

Sustainability and the Environment

The purpose of the CoP is to present acceptable, recommended and environmentally sustainable trade practices that a property owner can expect to see when a competent company provides an exterior cleaning or maintenance service. It does this by setting out “What needs to be done” in meeting water conservation and water discharge legal requirements and community responsibilities. How these environmental and sustainability standards are met is dependent upon a Company’s individual resources and a range of site and project specific factors.

Best Practice Procedures

The CoP also covers best practice water management and Health & Safety standards to ensure that exterior cleaning work can be completed effectively, efficiently and safely. It is an ECIA requirement that its Members hold Public Liability Insurance and have in place a Health & Safety Policy that reflects the work that they do.
